North of Ireland Family History Society 25th Anniversary Lectures MIGRATION – NORTH IRISH ROOTS Few, if any, families in Ulster have been untouched by migration. More often than not, the migrants have lost touch with their roots in Ulster. There is now considerable interest in studying family history and in reconnecting families.
As part of its 25th Anniversary, the Society organised two evening sessions of lectures as part of the Belfast Festival at Queen's. Both evenings were well attended and the audiences appreciated the high quality of the talks.
The first programme of two lectures were § Migration: Ireland to North America by Dr Marjory Harper Dr. Harper is a senior lecturer in the School of Divinity, History and Philosophy at the University of Aberdeen, where her interests relate closely to the work of the Research Institute of Irish and Scottish Studies. Her research is primarily in the area of Scottish emigration in the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly to Canada. She lectures on the Scottish and Irish diaspora and has written, edited and contributed to a number of books on emigration to North America; her latest book is Adventurers and Exiles.
