DESCRIPTION:Writing Family Memoirs that Engage and Inspire the Next Generation\nA six part online course for NIFHS Members only.\nHave you ever wondered how to transform your family history research into stories that your children, grandchildren, and wider family will want to read and preserve?\nJoin Audrey McKeown, Editor of North Irish Roots, for a practical and enjoyable course that will help you bring your family history to life through story-based writing.\nWhat Will the Course Cover?\nFamily history is much more than names, dates, and records. This course explores ways to create engaging narratives that capture the personalities, experiences, and lives of our ancestors.\n\n\nMove beyond family records and timelines.\nIdentify compelling stories within your research.\nDevelop a vivid character portrait of an ancestor.\nUse historical context to enrich family narratives.\nWrite in a style that engages and inspires future generations.\nShape research findings into a meaningful family story or booklet.\n\n\nRather than attempting to write a complete family history, participants will focus on creating a Character Study—a narrative portrait of one ancestor that combines research, historical context, memories from family members, and storytelling techniques.\nThis is a supportive, hands-on course with opportunities to share ideas, discuss progress, and learn alongside fellow family historians.\nCourse Dates\nThursdays at 4.00 pm (UK) on the following dates:\n\n\n17 September 2026\n15 October 2026\n19 November 2026\n21 January 2027\n25 February 2027\n18 March 2027\n\n\nThe ticket price of £60 includes all classes in the course.\nDuration\nEach session will last approximately 60–70 minutes.\nPlaces\nPlaces are limited to 20 participants and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Fees are not refundable.\nPlease note that this course is for current NIFHS Members only at the time of the classes.
