Talk for NIFHS Lisburn Branch, Women In Irish Society In The Late 19th, early 20th Century by Dr Myrtle Hil, Tuesday, 12 November 2024 @ 7.30 pm.
On-site event.
Women’s experience throughout history, as now, was diverse and dependant on a range of factors such as age, location and marital status. In this illustrated talk we shall explore some aspects of everyday life in a period of change and turmoil, and note too, those women who dedicated themselves to the betterment of others of their sex, particularly in the areas of education, work and politics.
Myrtle Hill, formerly Director of Women’s Studies and Senior Lecturer in Queens University Belfast, has published books, articles and chapters on many aspects of the history of Irish social life – including religion, gender, suffrage, Home Rule and women’s experiences more generally. Following retirement she remains active in the voluntary and community sectors.
