Description

The introduction puts the 1830s into its family history and historical context and discusses the excellent source materials for the period.
A dozen or so aspects of life are then considered, with examples drawn mainly from reasonably prosperous farming communities, e.g. health, education, housing, amusements, emigration and so on.
FInally other places including a wealthier town and poorer parishes, and other times, are discussed, with suggestions for appropriate reading matter.
