About Us: Connecting, Educating and Supporting
The North of Ireland Family History Society promotes and encourages the public and personal study of world-wide family history, genealogy, heraldry and local history with particular reference to the nine counties of Ulster in the North of Ireland.
We welcome Members from all around the world, as well as those who live locally. They can join any of our nine branches or choose Virtual Membership, not linked to a specific branch.
As a registered charity with The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland (NIC106071), the Society is a non profit making organisation. It depends entirely on volunteers to carry out its activities and has no paid employees.
Throughout its history, the Society has been fortunate to have dedicated people leading and developing it into the organisation we are proud of today.
Our volunteers are the backbone of the Society. They serve as officers, run the Research Centre, transcribe records, lead courses, publish booklets, newsletters, and journals, develop DNA projects, and much more.
Beyond supporting Members, the Society supports family history research in the wider community through many Public Benefit initiatives.
The Society is governed by a Council of elected officers and branch representatives. It meets monthly to discuss every aspect of our activities.
Membership fees and welcome donations fund the costs of running the Society. Proceeds from courses and other initiatives also provide revenue.
We are committed to providing a safe and user-friendly experience on our Website. View our Privacy and Cookie Policies for more information.
