County Tyrone lies in the middle of the Province of Ulster and is the largest county within Northern Ireland. It is bounded on the east by Lough Neagh, the largest lake in Ireland, on the north-east by County Londonderry, on the north-west by County Donegal, on the south-west by County Fermanagh, on the south by County Monaghan and on the south-east by County Armagh. The county has been inhabited for over 6,000 years and has links with St. Patrick. It was created a county in 1585.
