In stockResearching Your Ancestors in the North of Ireland: Heraldry, Understanding Coats of Arms
After introducing the origins of heraldry and the purpose of coats of arms, with their crests, mottoes and supporters, there is a section on the language of blazon, by which coats of arms are defined.
This is followed by a section on how different forms of arms show relationships, honours and death.
A section discusses the granting of arms by the officers of arms in the heraldic jurisdictions based in London, Edinburgh, Dublin and elsewhere around the world.
The main heraldic societies, offices and books are listed so that the reader can develop his or her interest further. Finally there are some examples from Ulster.
Originally written to accompany a Society course with the same title, this booklet was developed to be useful to anyone, whether or not they had attended the course.
