The Society as a Charity has a Governing Document consisting of a Society Constitution and a Branch Constitution.

The North of Ireland Family History Society (NIFHS) adopted the current Society Constitution at its Annual General Meeting on the 19th May 2018.

The Constitution defines the Objects of the Society, the Society’s obligations as a Charity and the Membership and Meetings of the Society and of its managing Council of Trustees.

The Objects are defined as “To promote and encourage the public and personal study of worldwide family history, genealogy, heraldry and local history with particular reference to the North of Ireland”.

A separate document, the Branch Constitution, defines the rôle of each Branch.

Branch Constitution

The North of Ireland Family History Society (NIFHS) adopted the current Branch Constitution for existing Branches at the Society’s Annual General Meeting on the 19th May 2018.

Any new Branch has to adopt this Constitution, which defines the Branch’s rôle and responsibilities and the Membership and Meetings of the Branch and of its Committee.  It is to be read in conjunction with the Society Constitution, which defines the Society’s Objects, its obligations as a Charity and the rôle of its managing body, the Council of Trustees, on which each Branch is represented by its Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer.
