The Society as a Charity has a Governing Document consisting of a Society Constitution and a Branch Constitution.
The North of Ireland Family History Society (NIFHS) adopted the current Society Constitution at the A.G.M. on the 30th May 2009.
The Constitution defines the Objects of the Society, the Society’s obligations as a Charity and the Membership and Meetings of the Society and of its managing Council of Trustees.
A separate document, the Branch Constitution, defines the rôle of each Branch.
The Objects are defined as “To promote and encourage the public and personal study of worldwide family history, genealogy, heraldry and local history with particular reference to the North of Ireland”
